I was lucky to get my hands a on a gorgeous slab of western red cedar salvaged from Fraser Valley. The tree was approximately 98 yrs old before it was cut. This one-of-a-kind crosscut slab (i.e. donut) had the perfect dimensions for making a coffee table. First I removed the rotten wood, and then hand carved around the branch to give it a presentable shape. The edge was cleaned and sealed with fast-cure epoxy. The crack was secured with butterfly inlays and filled with slow-cure blue epoxy. After sanding and smoothing the surface, the table was finished with two coats of Osmo PolyOil 3043.
